WHAT WE SAY:

Replacing jars and bottles with plastic-free solutions is only half the battle.

How many times are we asked about closures (caps of all kinds) and of course the holy grail, plastic-free pumps. Quadpack is innovating fast, specialising in wood and glass. The good news is its lack of compromise on performance, striving for total plastic-free options – creating friction fit caps and no plastic liners. Now if only it could create that plastic-free pump.

ABOUT QUADPACK

  • Founded in 2003, Quadpack is a B Corp-certified Spanish beauty packaging manufacturer, working across skincare, makeup and fragrance, specialising in the use of Glass and wood.
  • Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, the company has offices and production facilities in Europe, the US and the APAC region, 111 suppliers, a global network of manufacturing partners, and employs under 600 staff.
  • Sales were up 25% in 2021, from 2020, with a turnover of EUR 101.9 million (USD 107.1 million) in the year ending 31 January 2021. The company invested EUR 6 million (USD 6.3 million) in the expansion of its German manufacturing facilities in Kierspe in early 2022.
  • Quadpack is known for imbuing plastic-free materials with new levels of functionality. Woodacity, launched in January 2021, is a globally patented range of caps, which require no plastic insert. Made in Europe from PEFC and FSC-certified wood, the friction fits, threads and click-closure functions featured in the range offer the same properties as plastic lids.
  • Customisable via micro-engraving and digital printing, Quadpack has supplied caps for brands, including Giorgio Armani, Nails.Inc, Issey Miyake, Burberry and Guess.
  • All wooden elements can be paired with its Regula glass range, made in Europe and designed as an alternative to acrylic.
  • In August 2023, the company expanded its Woodacity range to include refillable lipstick tubes, compacts, and jars made from wood.
  • The company’s 2019 Eco-warrior range further reduces the impact of glass, with a slimline design that makes each pack 40% lighter than its Air line 100 millilitre bottle.
  • In 2020, Quadpack partnered with Sulapac, a biopolymer innovation company. The result was the Nordic Collection, a range of 15, 30 and 50 millilitre jars, which was later expanded to include a 200 millilitre jar.
  • Other innovations include an airless refill with a snap-on ring for easy removal and refilling.
  • The company claims it operates on 100% renewable energy and reported emissions savings of 56% in the year ending 31st January 2021, compared to 2019 levels. It has a Gold EcoVadis rating and a CDP rating of B. It rates all of its products according to a Positive Impact Packaging Framework, using LCA data and taking factors, such as circularity, carbon footprint, recyclability and reuse into account.
  • Quadpack Wood’s factory in Spain saw a EUR 2.5 million (USD 2.6 million) investment in 2020 for a new biomass plant. The factory now uses its own wood scrap to generate energy to power air conditioning, dryers and heating. The company claims that it has reduced annual CO2 emissions by approximately 400 tons already.
  • Waste from its wood-shaping facilities is recycled and used for chipboard, animal bedding and fuel, while its cork is sourced as a by-product of the wine industry.
  • Quadpack has won numerous awards. Among them are the 2016 Liderpack Award for Best Packaging in Health and Beauty, a 2017 WorldStar Award for the same category and Luxury Packaging Supplier of the Year 2017. It has been a finalist for awards, including Luxepack’s 2021 Green Monaco Awards and the 2022 Beauty Innovation Awards.
