WHAT WE SAY:

Austria: famous for mountains, 'The Sound of Music,' strudel and producing some of the world’s most sustainable fibres?

Lenzing’s Tencel fibre is perhaps its most widely known, while the company also produces lyocell and viscose fibres that are carbon zero, or blended with upcycled cotton waste, to name a few. Lenzing was awarded a platinum EcoVadis CSR rating in 2021, putting it in the top 1% of assessed companies. So while no company is perfect, you will find it hard to source better plastic-free fabrics at scale today.

  • Lenzing uses closed-loop production processes, with advanced recycling and recovery rates to reach its sustainability goals. Its biorefinery concept ensures that 100% of its wood components are used, either to produce pulp for its botanic fibres, for biorefinery products or bioenergy.

  • Lenzing claims full supply chain transparency, facilitated by its unique fibre identification system to trace its fibres in textile end products.
  • Lenzing offers retailers a brand licensing service to mark end products with certification and licensing, and hang tags.
  • Lenzing achieved a platinum EcoVadis CSR rating in 2021 (putting it in the top 1% of assessed companies) and was one of only 14 companies worldwide to receive a AAA rating from global non-profit CDP, for its leadership in climate change, water security and forest conservation.
