ABOUT HCP PACKAGING

• Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Shanghai, HCP is one of the world’s largest beauty packaging providers with 10 production and manufacturing facilities across China, the USA, Mexico and Europe. It has more than 5,000 staff members worldwide.
• The company is known for its vast product portfolio, supplying everything from palettes and compacts to mascara wands and concealer pots to its over 250 customers. Key customers include Olay, R.E.M Beauty, Fenty, Givenchy and Perfect Diary.
• It was recently bought by US private equity group Carlyle Group Inc. for USD 1 billion on 26 May 2022. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in Q3 2022.
• In recent years, the company has been focused on extending its HCP-Eco range, which is designed to optimise brands’ ability to reduce, reuse and recycle packaging. While much of this range relies on PCR plastic and bio-based plastic materials, the brand is now experimenting with alternative, more traditional materials such as Aluminium and Paper too.
• The brand’s Harmony Luxe Aluminum Lipstick is an innovation to watch. Made from 100% virgin aluminium, the lipstick case forgoes the need for plastic twist mechanisms and enables the entire pack to be recycled in one. The company is expanding its use of aluminium thanks to the acquisition of aluminium packaging manufacturer Hetian Packaging in 2020.
• Other innovations of note include refillable lipsticks in both paper and plastic, refillable eyeshadow palettes and refillable cosmetic jars.
• HCP Packaging was awarded the 2017 Leading Supplier Honors Certificate for corporate action on climate change in China. In 2018, the company was awarded the Silver CSR rating by EcoVadis, which evaluates a company’s ability to improve environmental and social impacts within its business.
• The company participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which drives corporate transparency through measurement of environmental action. HCP received a B level rating for this in 2018.
