WHAT WE SAY:

This subsidiary of the world’s largest label maker, CCL, is attempting to drive innovation within the wine industry with its resealable aluminium wine bottle.

We welcome these good intentions, but we would like to see the company embrace aluminium’s circularity and champion the use of recycled materials more, especially as aluminium is infinitely circular.

CCL Container is a leading US manufacturer of Aluminium packaging for the personal care, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and household industries.
CCL Container was launched as a division of CCL Industries, the world’s largest label maker, in 1985 to focus on aluminium containers and speciality shaping.
The company produces aerosol cans, drinks cans, personal care bottles and more for major companies such as Aussie, Axe, Method and RedKen.
CCL Container employs nearly 1,000 people and operates three manufacturing facilities in North America, all of which are ISO 9002 Registered.
CCL Industries as a whole has put into production 24,567 tonnes of aluminium (versus 84,372 tonnes of plastic across the group).
The company states that most aluminium slug material purchases come from suppliers certified under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard.
In 2020, the company acquired one of two North America aluminium slug plants, Rheinfelden Americas.
